Gavin Leow - Flight Vlogger

Gavin Leow
Meet Gavin he is a flight vlogger,
We caught up with Gavin to ask him a few questions about his travels.

Name - Gavin Leow

Birthday - 24th March

Studying at University - Business Management

Hobby - Flying / Vlogging

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Gavin and I go by the online persona RvXKaz (pronounced R-V-X-Kaz). I‘m a flight vlogger (flight video blogger) and I take pleasure in making and sharing the videos of my flights with everyone around the world!
I‘m studying business management in university and when I am not busy with university life, I enjoy indulging in my hobby: flying.
I have a knack for flying different airlines and I never stick to one as I relish experiencing the different cultural hospitality and services onboard the different airlines.

Are you a good airline passenger?

Now, that‘s a tricky question. I‘ll put forth my behavioral merits first: aside from paying attention to flight safety videos and adhering to take-off and landing safety procedures such as putting my bag under the seat in front of me and putting my seat in an upright position, I also try to be considerate to my fellow passengers as well by not reclining my seat if I‘m not sleeping so as not to intrude into others‘ limited space and keeping the lavatories clean after I‘ve used them. And if the crew are great, I‘d always love to write them some great feedback via the feedback form! That‘s the goodie side of my airline passenger behaviour.
But then again, I‘m guilty of filming my flight take-offs and landings, in which there is controversy whether it should be prohibited. I personally don‘t see it as an issue as the camera isn‘t a transmitting device which would interfere with the navigation systems. I would never do anything to jeopardize the safety of others onboard the aircraft for sure!

How do you make the most of your flight time?

Being a window rather than an aisle person, I enjoy looking out of the window at the world below me. It gives me a really surreal feeling of enjoying the bird‘s eye view at 38,000 feet in the air whilst I reflect on the human accomplishments in flying which has gone a long way since the days of early propeller jets to the comfort of today‘s ultramodern passenger aircrafts. Sometimes, when I see the lights of bustling cities below, I‘d like to imagine what their inhabitants are doing at that moment we were passing them by. Otherwise, I‘d like to listen to music and watch movies on the entertainment system, I‘m just like any other normal passenger after all (as I like to think of myself sometimes)!

What‘s the most enjoyable part of traveling?

On hindsight, I‘d say flying. But on a more enlightened perspective, its about novel experiences. To meet all sorts of interesting new people or do the things you wouldn‘t do back home, such as trying the local cuisine and seeing all the tourist attractions with your own eyes. For me, nothing heals the stressed out soul and restarts one‘s motivation than letting go of everything that holds us to our clockwork lifestyle and enjoy the world we live in, even if only for a few days.

Do you have any advice for people whose travel is restricted due to a fear of flying?

I think most of us know that statistically, flying is much safer than driving. But still, for some of us, nervousness and apprehension strike before and during flying (even I am not spared sometimes!). My advice is to do more research on your flight options and choose the airline and/or aircraft you feel most at ease with. When onboard, pay attention to the safety procedures and keep those in mind, but otherwise, just relax and enjoy your flight experience. If you need anything, just ask the crew kindly and they will be happy to assist to make your flight more comfortable. Once you‘ve had a good flying experience, it is guaranteed you won‘t feel as bad about your next one!

What‘s your favourite airport?

My top pick for an airport goes out to Hong Kong International Airport. I love the expansive terminal building design and I‘ve seen the airport staff going beyond their call of duty to assist the passengers. There are also adequate seating for all, which is good for tired legs after all the duty-free shopping. It also helps that it offers great views of the aircraft, which allows plane-lovers like me to indulge in one of my favourite hobby, aircraft photography!

What advice would you give to anyone looking make their own travel video?

Video-making is like an art. As it is your very own unique travel experience, anyone wanting to make their own travel video should keep in mind its very individualised and personal in nature. That‘s the best part about it. A great travel video is one that will inspire you long after your travel is over and you can tell yourself ‘wow, I can‘t believe I‘ve done all that!‘

Some useful tips:

• Take more photos and video clips of your travels so you will have more material to work with.
• In selecting photos and raw video clips, place appropriate focus on the more enjoyable or memorable aspects of your travels and skim on the non-essential aspects so as not to make your video too draggy (remember, not all photos must go in!)
• A good music on the background helps to set the mood.
• Jot down the little details of your travels, such as names of places you‘ve visited so that you can add them in your video for memory-sake!
• Lastly, always have fun in making your video!

What‘s the most challenging thing about making Travel videos?

Procrastination. After our travels (and back to facing reality), most of us (myself included) love to put off making our travel videos till much later, by which we would be even less motivated to make our travel videos! Its best to start on your travel video soon after your travel. Though it takes quite a hefty effort to sort out your favourite photos and video clips to put into the video, know that it is always a unique masterpiece on its own when it‘s finished.
